Origin of your character name/ alias/etc

Postby Germiahish » Tue Dec 02, 2014 4:15 am

Just wondering how some people come up with their names.
Off Topic has been kinda dead so here goes...
For me, as some may know, this is an account I shared with my brother. He made the name based on his name. So no it is not a misspelled version of German. Although we have German heritage and his name is German.
As for my actual name AwesomeNoob42. I made the name freshman year for a Tetris game and it just kinda stuck. It is an oxymoron and I liked the number 42 for whatever reason. So it has been my alias for Mine craft, League, Strife and some console games and stuff.

Hopefully your IQ didn't drop from reading me ramble.

First year of high school, needed a cool new gaming name. Some space book i was reading at the time was about these guys looking for a key to the arc ship that would save the world... arc key - ark key -arki

Its been my gaming name ever since, from shogo, broodwar, even Starkingdoms - a real time text based war game.

Drunk playing D&D after school. My character died so I rolled up another one. I had a star trek cup I was drinking out of. So bam. Artrek.

I just randomly came up with this name one morning in orchestra class in my Junior year of high school, although it started out as Eduardo J. Faustenberger rather than the current Baron von.

I was on my 9th year of StarCraft which is where I derived "IX". In mathematics "i" is an imaginary number, and I felt like I was walking through a door into the world of StarCraft, so "IX-i-door" was the natural etymology. After brainstorming for several hours, "Ixidor" became the final revision, and the rest is history...

Way back in the day it was Flame9-2, which rather quickly became Flame9-1. It was inspired from Star Wars where they had "Red-Leader, Red-5, etc" and "Gold-Leader, Gold-2, etc". I wanted my name to look like I was in a "Flame" squadron. For some reason I decided that the Flame squadron was the 9th squad in the fleet, thus "Flame9". I can't remember why I did "1" instead of "Leader". Over time, I found that some games didn't like dashes in the name input. So I spent a lot of time trying to come up with a cool sounding unique name. Somehow I ended up with Xulik. Used this for a year or 2.

One day I went to a game and found that Xulik was taken. I was so surprised that I immediately took to Google to find out why. A couple things came up. One was some girl's blog that was in Spanish. Another was some sort of comic book theme park called "Xulik" that I think was in mexico (so again, in spanish).

I needed a new name that I knew would never be taken. So I did some searching and found a Protoss name generator. I found a couple names on there, combined them then put my own twist on it. Came up with 'Zodaris'. I googled that name every way I could think of to make sure it was unique. It was! That was 2-3 years ago and to this day I've yet to see it's double. :)

Favorite holiday item from Runescape was the Chicken Suit from 07's Easter event. When you wear it, you become a chicken man, yadda yadda yadda, here I am.

Ehh, somewhat resembles my own real name. Also has a fiction-like foundation, and was suitable for online gaming of any sorts. Became my primary username in 2010, and has been ever since.

Zenthon is a frickin' psychic fire robot from this show that was really popular when I was a kid. Even when I outgrew the show I still thought that name was awesome, and it's unique enough that I got recognized cross-game once.

GodKing-Civ 3, when you made custom ruler you had a section for the title. I liked GodKing. It has a nice ring to it. And frankly if I was a ruler, I would totes make my subject worship me as the superior form of life I would be.

My dad came up with the accounts name.
Wolfitius is my main account name for gaming, I came up with it randomly, its meant to be a werewolf god. Fear me.
